The most common way to do this dive is from land. Entering the stairs muellito de Playa Chica, one travels through the shallow area always full of schools of fish. From there you descend through the large submerged dunes, crossing the eelgrass field, to the entrance of the Blue Hole, a small tunnel a short distance away and very fascinating at the entrance the sand and out into the open sea. In the real there are several interesting caves and cavities to look for life, from swarms of narwhal shrimps to small orange corals and large fish diversity. This is also an ideal spot to observe pelagic species, so don’t lose sight of the blue.
Another of the island’s most famous dives is La Catedral, a huge cave we can enter, similar to the vault of a church, lined with rock walls several meters high where all kinds of creatures live. Including giant groupers.
Here we find huge walls falling into the abyss, impossibly shaped rocks, caves, arches–all framed by white sandy seabed and surrounded by hundreds of fish and marine life. It is a very diverse dive with different possibilities. We can find orange coral and a cave with narwhal shrimps.
This is a very special dive. Waikiki’s exotic name already transports us to tropical areas. The white sand bottom reflects the sunlight, creating that effect characteristic of the Caribbean or Southeast Asia. Just submerged, a few meters away, we find large populations of fish, but it is worth continuing down to the edge.
Named after the swarms of narwhal shrimp (popularly called crayfish) Large groupers wait for the light of our flashlights to start the party. It is a dive for experienced divers as it is over 40 meters deep.
These three wooden fishing boats, built in the last century for the firm purpose of facing the ocean to fish, paradoxically ended their days at the bottom of the sea and are now home to those who were once their prey. The two lower boats are practically complete. In contrast, the deeper one presents a phantasmagoric appearance with frames protruding from the keel like ribs of a spine.
A recommended dive for wreck lovers. In one dive you can visit the remains of up to six wrecks. Interestingly, the most superficial ones are the best preserved, and even one of them protrudes from under the rocks of the pier’s breakwater, providing an entirely unusual view. The remains of the boats offer a completely different landscape than any other dive on the island, which is a popular dive for divers visiting Lanzarote for the first time.
