What is a try scuba dive?

A try scuba dive is your first real dive in the sea. No theory, no exam, no commitment to continue. You go into the water with an SSI instructor by your side, to a maximum depth of 12 metres, and you experience diving as it really is: silence, weightlessness and marine life centimetres from your face.

You don’t need to be an expert swimmer or have any previous experience. The instructor manages the equipment, controls the depth and stays with you at all times. Your only job is to breathe, look around and enjoy.

If you want to continue afterwards, the try dive counts as your first dive within the SSI Open Water Diver programme. You don’t start from scratch — you already have one dive done.

Try Scuba Diving in Lanzarote

80€

A real dive in the Atlantic ocean of Lanzarote. With an SSI instructor, all equipment included and groups of maximum 4 people. No previous experience needed. From 8 years old.

What's included

How your try scuba dive works

In 2 hours, you go from never having dived to breathing underwater in the Atlantic.

Preparation with your instructor

Before entering the water, your SSI instructor explains everything you need to know in 20-30 minutes: how to breathe through the regulator, how to equalise the pressure in your ears and how to communicate underwater using hand signals. No technical jargon, no rush. In your language.

First metres in shallow water

We enter the water in a sheltered shallow area. Here you practise breathing with the equipment on, get used to buoyancy and release any tension before the real dive. Your instructor is by your side at all times.

Dive in the Atlantic ocean of Lanzarote

The real dive. We go down to 12 metres over volcanic seabeds with good visibility and marine life characteristic of the Canary Islands: moray eels, rays, parrotfish, limpets and in season, angel sharks. Maximum 4 people. Your instructor guides you — all you have to do is look.

At selected dive sites from our base in Costa Teguise: Playa Chica, Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise, depending on the conditions on the day. Volcanic seabed, good visibility and marine life typical of the Canary Islands: moray eels, rays, parrotfish and, in season, angel sharks.

Just a swimsuit, a towel and enthusiasm. All diving equipment is included in the price. We recommend comfortable clothes to change into afterwards and a light snack if you have a sensitive stomach, although the activity only lasts a few hours.

Before the try dive you will complete a standard SSI medical questionnaire. Conditions such as asthma, heart problems or ear issues may be incompatible with diving. If you have any doubts about your health, consult your doctor before booking.

Maximum 4 people per instructor. This is one of Pro Dive Lanzarote's main differentiators: guaranteed small groups so the instructor can give you full attention at all times. No large groups following a buoy.

The full activity lasts approximately 3 hours: briefing with your instructor, practice in shallow water and a real dive in the Atlantic Ocean in Lanzarote to a maximum depth of 12 metres.

The try dive at Pro Dive Lanzarote costs €80. This includes a certified SSI instructor, full equipment, public liability insurance and instruction in English, Spanish and Italian. No additional costs.

After one dive, it is recommended to wait at least 12 hours before flying. If you have a flight the same day, let us know when booking so we can arrange the timing with enough margin.

Moray eels, rays, parrotfish, limpets and cuttlefish are common in Lanzarote's volcanic seabed. In winter, angel sharks are frequently spotted. Average visibility exceeds 15 metres, which means you can see everything clearly from the very first metres of depth.
